Rachel Garret Therapist

Rachel Garrett

Background, Education, and Training

I received my BA degree in Therapeutic Recreation from Clemson University. Following graduation, I worked as a Child Life Specialist in Columbia, SC for several years before deciding to pursue a career in counseling. I received a Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Denver Seminary. It was there that I developed a strong foundation in therapeutic techniques, psychological theories, and integration of psychology and faith. I completed my internship with adolescent females at a trauma-informed residential facility, and following graduation, I worked as a therapist and residential house counselor at an eating disorder center in the Denver metro area.  In 2018, I joined a group of therapists specializing in various issues to promote the wellbeing of families, adolescents, and adults. In 2021,  my family decided to  move back to the Upstate of SC, where I continued to see clients remotely. In the summer of 2024, I decided to open my own practice so that I could have the benefit of seeing clients face to face again while also continuing to offer virtual sessions for clients in CO. My diverse experience has enriched my understanding of the complexities around physical and mental health and has allowed me to refine my approach to therapy. I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of CO and SC.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our two  daughters, who keep us on our toes and bring us so much joy. I enjoy hiking, hopping on the Swamp Rabbit trail to run or ride my bike, drinking coffee, trying new restaurants, and cheering on the Clemson Tigers and Denver Broncos.

Commitment to Ongoing Learning

I am dedicated to staying current with the latest research and developments in the field of counseling. Through continuous education and professional development, I ensure that my practice remains informed by the most effective and innovative therapeutic approaches. In addition, I am committed to my own emotional, physical, and spiritual health so that I can be committed to you.

Personal Philosophy

My approach to therapy is rooted in the belief that all people have the capacity for growth and change within relationships. I am devoted to joining you in your journey as you work to overcome challenges, build upon your strengths, and help you lead a more fulfilling life.

Approach to Therapy

My therapeutic approach is grounded in empathy, collaboration, and evidence-based practices, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Narrative Therapy. However, I understand that each of you has your own unique story, and I will strive to adjust my approach in a way that will meet you right where you are and guide you toward your desired outcomes. My goal is to work together with you to identify goals, develop effective strategies, and support you in making meaningful changes in your lives. I believe in creating a warm, safe, and non-judgmental space where you can openly explore your thoughts and feelings. Because I believe laughter is a powerful tool in promoting healing, connection, and growth, we may also use humor as we dig into difficult and uncomfortable spaces.

My hope is that you leave feeling heard, understood, and accepted just as you are in the places you find yourself. If you are ready to take the next step, I invite you to reach out and schedule a free 15 minute consultation. Whether you have questions or are ready to begin your journey, I am here for you. Let’s do this together!
