Rachel Garrett

Background, Education, and Training

I earned my B.A. in Therapeutic Recreation from Clemson University and began my career as a Child Life Specialist in Columbia, SC. My passion for supporting others led me to pursue a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Denver Seminary, where I gained a strong foundation in therapeutic techniques, psychological theory, and the integration of psychology and faith.

My clinical experience includes working with adolescents in a trauma-informed residential facility, serving as a therapist and residential counselor at an eating disorder center in Denver, and later joining a group practice supporting families, adolescents, and adults. In 2024, I opened my own practice to provide both in-person and virtual sessions, and I am licensed to see clients in South Carolina and Colorado. These experiences have given me a deep appreciation for the connection between physical and emotional health, which I strive to bring into the counseling room.

Outside of the office, life is full of energy and joy with my husband and our two young daughters. I love spending time outdoors hiking, biking, or running on the Swamp Rabbit Trail, sipping good coffee, discovering new restaurants, and cheering on the Clemson Tigers and Denver Broncos.

Commitment to Ongoing Learning

I am dedicated to staying current with the latest research and developments in the field of counseling. Through continuous education and professional development, I ensure that my practice remains informed by the most effective and innovative therapeutic approaches. In addition, I am committed to my own emotional, physical, and spiritual health so that I can be committed to you.

Personal Philosophy

My approach to therapy is rooted in the belief that all people have the capacity for growth and change within relationships. I am devoted to joining you in your journey as you work to overcome challenges, build upon your strengths, and help you lead a more fulfilling life.

Approach to Therapy

My therapeutic approach is rooted in empathy, collaboration, and evidence-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS). At the same time, I recognize that each person’s story is unique, and I often think outside of the box to tailor my approach to meet you exactly where you are. Together, we will explore strategies and perspectives, both traditional and innovative, that support your growth and guide you toward your desired outcomes. My goal is to work together with you to identify goals, develop effective strategies, and support you in making meaningful changes in your lives. I believe in creating a warm, safe, and non-judgmental space where you can openly explore your thoughts and feelings. Because I believe laughter is a powerful tool in promoting healing, connection, and growth, we may also use humor as we dig into difficult and uncomfortable spaces.

My hope is that you leave each session feeling truly heard, deeply understood, and fully accepted just as you are in the places you find yourself. If you are ready to take the next step, I invite you to reach out and schedule a free 15 minute consultation. Whether you have questions or are ready to begin your journey, I am here for you. Let’s do this together.
