Therapy Services
At Rachel Garrett Counseling, I offer specialized support in several key areas, helping you navigate complex and often deeply personal challenges. My therapeutic practice focuses on the following specialties:
Eating Disorders and Recovery
Eating disorders and disordered eating can present in a variety of ways, including anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, obsession with clean or “pure” eating, avoidant and restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID), and other specified feeding or eating disorder (OSFED). My approach blends evidence-based techniques with a compassionate, non-judgmental space to help you develop a healthier relationship with food, your body, and exercise. I focus on treating the whole person, not just the eating disorder, and work to foster skills and strategies for managing stress, emotions, and triggers, supporting realistic, sustainable, and lasting recovery.
I recognize that recovery often benefits from a multidisciplinary approach. I collaborate with medical professionals, dietitians, and other specialists as needed to provide comprehensive care. When appropriate, I may also involve family members to offer guidance and education that helps loved ones contribute positively to your recovery journey. If a higher level of care is needed, I can provide referrals to ensure your needs are fully met.
Body Image Issues
Navigating body image concerns can be incredibly challenging due to conflicting views and opinions within our family systems, social circles, culture, and media. We will work together to help you build awareness around how your beliefs were shaped, address negative self-perceptions, build self-esteem, and foster a more positive and accepting view of your body. Together, we will work towards achieving a healthier and more compassionate self-image.
Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs)
BFRBs are repetitive behaviors that are done to the body that end up causing noticeable impact to the body. BFRBs often serve to soothe the nervous system, and include behaviors such as hair pulling (trichotillomania), skin picking (dermatillomania), and nail biting (onychophagia). They can significantly disrupt your daily life and result in feelings of guilt, shame, and embarrassment as they are often hard to control and difficult to explain. I approach these behaviors with gentleness and compassion, and utilize specialized strategies to help regulate your body in productive ways, while addressing the underlying emotional and psychological factors as well.
Anxiety
We live in a world filled with uncertainty, so it’s no surprise that many of us struggle with anxiety in its many forms including ongoing worry, specific fears, or sudden panic. Anxiety can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to define your life. Together, we can explore tailored approaches to help you better understand your anxiety, develop effective coping strategies, and move toward a steadier, more fulfilling sense of balance and peace.
Grief
Grief touches us all, though it rarely looks the same from one person to another. It may come through the death of a loved one or pet, the end of a marriage or friendship, the loss of a job, a relocation, a new diagnosis, or even the quiet ache of an unfulfilled dream. However it shows up, grief is a deeply personal process that can feel overwhelming and isolating. I offer a warm, supportive space for you to explore the complex emotions of loss. Together, we can work toward carrying your loss with compassion, moving forward at your own pace, and discovering new meaning and purpose along the way.
Life Transitions
I believe that all change, both good and bad, involves loss. Major life changes, such as a shift in career, a relocation to a new town, becoming a new parent, or changes in personal relationships, can be overwhelming. I offer guidance and support to help you adapt to these transitions, find clarity, explore how it shapes your identity, and build resilience as you work to move forward in your life.
Maternal Issues
Navigating the journey of motherhood can bring a mix of joy, challenges, and significant changes. It often involves redefining your sense of identity, priorities, and purpose. I provide support for women experiencing various maternal issues, such as pregnancy and prenatal adjustments and postpartum support. I also provide support in helping you explore your evolving roles, foster self-care practices, and maintain a sense of self amidst the demands of motherhood. In our sessions, we will work together to address these aspects of maternal life with empathy and a focus on your well-being.
